MEQUON — An investigation is underway, and all after-school activities have been canceled at Homestead High School in Mequon after a threat was made on Tuesday, October 25th.

According to a statement from the Mequon-Thiensville School District, at approximately 11:00 a.m., a Homestead High School student observed a note written on the inside of a bathroom stall door stating: “Bomb @ 4:20.”

It is unclear when the note was written.

The student reported the information to a campus supervisor, who notified administrators. Immediately thereafter, police were notified. During consultation between administrators and police, it was determined that the incident did not warrant an immediate evacuation — but that after-school dismissal was an appropriate course of action.

The following actions were taken:

  • Law enforcement completed a sweep of the exterior of the campus.
  • School personnel completed a comprehensive sweep of the interior of the school building.
  • A request was made for additional law enforcement officers to be present on the high school campus at the conclusion of the school day.
  • An initial review of security camera footage was completed in an attempt to determine who may have composed the note.

All after-school activities have been canceled Tuesday evening to allow law enforcement to complete an additional security sweep within the school building.

School district officials said this in the statement:

“The safety and security of our students and staff is our top priority. Parents are asked to encourage their children to advocate for a positive and safe school environment, and reinforce the need for students to report any concerns to appropriate staff members or administrators, just as the student did today when alerting school personnel as to what had been observed.

Administrators will continue to investigate this situation. When the responsible individual or individuals are determined, swift and significant discipline will be imposed. With the collaboration of all students, staff and administrators, we can ensure that Homestead High School remains a safe and student-centered environment.”

Classes will be in session Wednesday at Homestead High School as regularly scheduled.
