Great news for motorists: "Zipper Merge" to end along northbound I-894/41

MILWAUKEE -- The Wisconsin Department of Transportation’s Zoo Interchange team will be completing work along I-41/I-894 northbound in the overnight hours beginning Monday, October 31st.

When the work is completed at 5 a.m. Tuesday morning, the northbound lane currently closed near National Avenue will be reopened. This will allow the zipper merge point to be removed.

According to a press release, the work will also reopen three ramps that had been closed while the work was underway. The ramp to I-43 from WIS 100 in the Hale Interchange will be open as will the northbound ramp from National Avenue to I-41/I-894. The northbound ramp at Greenfield Avenue will also reopen with access to I-94 eastbound only.

There is a shift of the traffic lanes to the west which will change access to two system ramps. The ramp to I-94 westbound will be accessed from the right lane while on northbound I-894. This makes the end of any left hand accessed ramps in the interchange. The decision point to enter the ramp to I-94 eastbound will be closer to Greenfield Avenue. This is much earlier than the current point which is close to the center of the interchange.

The Department is asking for motorist to slow down and follow posted information to familiarize themselves with the new roadway configuration.
