Homicide investigation underway after UW-Stout student from Saudi Arabia dies after assault

MENOMONIE — Officials with the Menomonie Police Department are investigating the death of a 24-year-old UW-Stout student from Saudi Arabia as a homicide.

Hussain Saeed Alnahdi passed away on Monday, October 31st after he was assaulted early Sunday, October 30th near Main Street East and 4th Street East — near the Toppers Pizza restaurant.

Alnahdi was being treated at Luther Mayo Hospital in Eau Claire — where he passed away Monday after his condition worsened.

Alnahdi’s body will be taken to the University of Wisconsin-Madison Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine for an autopsy.

Meanwhile, the Menomonie Police Department is investigating Alnahdi’s death as a homicide.

This investigation is being conducted in partnership with the UW-Stout Police Department.

Menomonie police said in a statement they do not believe there is any threat to the community.

Law enforcement officials have not received any information about a possible motive in this case.

UW-Stout Chancellor Bob Meyer has issued this statement:

“It is with much sadness that I inform the campus that Hussain Saeed Alnahdi, 24, a junior majoring in business administration, passed away this afternoon from injuries suffered early Sunday morning during an assault in downtown Menomonie.

Our deepest sympathies, thoughts and prayers go out to Hussain’s family in Buraydah, Saudi Arabia, and his friends at UW-Stout.

Hussain came to UW-Stout in 2015. He was being treated at Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire.

I want to make a personal appeal to anyone on campus or in the community who might have information that would help authorities locate the individual involved in the attack to come forward. The incident occurred shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday in the 400 block of Main Street East in downtown Menomonie, near Topper’s Pizza.

UW System President Ray Cross made the following statement regarding the death of UW-Stout student Hussain Saeed Alnahdi:

“Our thoughts go out to the family and friends of Hussain Saeed Alnahdi, as well as the entire UW-Stout campus community. It is difficult to find the right words in light of such of a tragedy, except to express our sorrow for all who knew Hussain.

We thank the Menomonie Police Department as it continues its investigation and hope the perpetrator can be identified soon.”
