A prayer of Thanksgiving and for the guests to come and it didn't take long before they began to arrive at St. Vincent de Paul on Milwaukee's south side. They got the traditional yummy Thanksgiving meal -- something Bradley Johnson says it probably would not have gotten if not for the event.

"It's good to have people that do that and go out of their way for people like that. It's very cool. It's a blessing," said Bradley Johnson, guest.

"It's a special day for people giving thanks and for people with nowhere, no place to go," said Thompson.

The volunteers had that warm and fuzzy feeling just serving them.

Marge and James Banaszynski have been involved with the meals program for about 32 years. Peter Pfau for eight.

"It's always wonderful to be helpful. We're doing the works of the Lord," said Pfau.

As guests left they were given knitted scarves, hats and gloves -- and boxed pies for later.st-vincent3

In total, 243 meals were served. And you know that feeling you get when things go well? That's the way the coordinator was feeling.

"Oh my goodness. This was a gorgeous day," said LaDonna Quarles, St. Vincent de Paul meal site coordinator on the south side.
