"It's a blessing:" St. Vincent de Paul serves up a Thanksgiving meal for those in need

MILWAUKEE -- Thursday is all about thankfulness, sharing and food. FOX6's Beverly Taylor ventured to a place that had all three Thanksgiving Day, November 24th.

A prayer of Thanksgiving and for the guests to come and it didn't take long before they began to arrive at St. Vincent de Paul on Milwaukee's south side. They got the traditional yummy Thanksgiving meal -- something Bradley Johnson says it probably would not have gotten if not for the event.

"It's good to have people that do that and go out of their way for people like that. It's very cool. It's a blessing," said Bradley Johnson, guest.

Vydale Thompson Moody felt the same way.

"It's a special day for people giving thanks and for people with nowhere, no place to go," said Thompson.

The volunteers had that warm and fuzzy feeling just serving them.

Marge and James Banaszynski have been involved with the meals program for about 32 years. Peter Pfau for eight.

"It's always wonderful to be helpful. We're doing the works of the Lord," said Pfau.

As guests left they were given knitted scarves, hats and gloves -- and boxed pies for later.

In total, 243 meals were served. And you know that feeling you get when things go well? That's the way the coordinator was feeling.

"Oh my goodness. This was a gorgeous day," said LaDonna Quarles, St. Vincent de Paul meal site coordinator on the south side.
