Several crews called to help battle large building fire in Fond du Lac

FOND DU LAC -- Fond du Lac fire officials responded to an early morning fire on John Street, located off of Division in Fond du Lac, Saturday, December 3rd.

According to the Fond du Lac Fire Department, when authorities arrived at the scene, a vehicle was on fire as well as the building near it.

Officials say the building is subdivided into several tenant spaces for commercial use. The fire extended into the attic space and other hidden spaces above the ceiling.

Several off-duty personnel and neighboring fire departments were called to assist at the scene. In addition, the American Red Cross was called to assist with firefighter rehab needs.

No injuries were reported.

Alliant Energy was also called to the scene to secure gas and electrical service.

Due to the close proximity to the nearby river, the DNR was contacted due to the runoff from the fire scene into the river. Fond du Lac Fire Department HAZMAT crews deployed booms into the river in two locations to help capture any contaminants that drained into the waterway.

Officials say the building sustained heavy fire, heat and water damage. All tenant spaces are uninhabitable at this time.
