15-year-old girl fatally shot near 35th & Silver Spring: "Too many kids losing their lives"



MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee police are investigating the fatal shooting of a 15-year-old girl near 35th and Silver Spring on the city's north side -- shot while inside a home in the area.

Police tape surrounded an apartment building in the area Monday evening, December 12th as the victim's relatives waited in the parking lot for information. They were devastated to hear the worst possible news.

FOX6 News has learned the victim is 15-year-old Melanie Johnson. Johnson's sister, Kendra Haney said Johnson loved to read, and was a good babysitter.

"I`m sorry for my mama. I`m sorry for my other siblings. I`m sorry. I just really need to know who did this," Haney said.

Police said shots were fired from outside Johnson's mother's home shortly before 6:00 p.m. This is being investigated as a homicide.

"Put the guns down. Put the guns down. It`s too many kids losing their lives behind nonsense violence," Haney said.

It's unclear at this point whether the victim was the intended target in this case.

A motive for this shooting is under investigation, and police are seeking suspects.

"We`re hurting behind this, like, a lot. We`re hurting a lot behind this. This really is gonna be tough for us to go through. Just pray for us," Haney said.
