TreeHouse Foods, Inc. recalls macaroni and cheese cups due to threat of Salmonella
TreeHouse Foods, Inc. is voluntarily recalling certain macaroni and cheese cup products containing cheddar cheese seasoning which may be contaminated with Salmonella -- including Great Value macaroni and cheese sold at Walmart stores.
This follows notification from the supplier that the milk powder used in the seasoning has the potential for Salmonella contamination.
Salmonella is a bacterium that can cause diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps. Most individuals recover without treatment. In some cases, diarrhea may be so severe that the patient needs to be hospitalized. The elderly, infants, and those with impaired immune systems are more likely to have a severe illness.
The products included in this recall were distributed nationwide through retail stores.
