Suicidal man taken into custody after standoff in Milwaukee's Third Ward

MILWAUKEE -- A 31-year-old Milwaukee man was taken into custody Wednesday night, January 25th following a standoff situation in Milwaukee's Third Ward.

It began around 5:40 p.m.,when officers responded to the report of suicidal man armed with a gun near Milwaukee and Menomonee Streets. The subject was found to be seated inside a car near that location.

For the safety of citizens in the area, traffic was shut down on surrounding streets and the immediate area was cleared of pedestrians.

Officers attempted to negotiate with the subject, and when efforts were unsuccessful, they made a tactical approach to the vehicle, in a manner intended to minimize the chance of violence.  Their efforts were successful and the subject was taken into custody without injury to himself or any officers or citizens.

He was taken to a local hospital for treatment of a condition unrelated to his arrest, and he will be facing charges for an incident of domestic violence which preceded this incident.
