3 workers suffer burns in incident at Saukville's Johnson Brass and Machine Foundry
SAUKVILLE -- Saukville police tell FOX6 News three male workers at Johnson Brass and Machine Foundry suffered burns on Monday morning, January 30th.
Emergency crews were first dispatched to the foundry shortly before 11:30 a.m. All three workers were burned by molten metal on their legs. Officials say all three were sent to a hospital for treatment. The names of the victims are not being released at this time.
Officials said it appears no mechanical failure was responsible for the injuries. There was no fire or explosion. The cause of the injuries is under investigation.
The scene was cleared around noon.
A spokesperson from Johnson Brass issued the following statement:
"Three workers suffered non-life threatening injuries after metal splashed during a routine pouring process. Two workers received treatment for minor burns while the third suffered burns to his leg and was taken to the hospital for further treatment. He is expected to make a full recovery."
Nearly three years ago, a catastrophic failure of machinery at Johnson Brass sent workers scrambling. Officials said a machine malfunctioned in May 2014, spraying liquid metal around the plant floor, striking workers in their legs and backs. Eight were injured in that incident.
FOX6 News spoke with a neighbor off camera who said many in the area have concerns about the foundry. When she heard about what happened Monday, she rushed home from work.
"To make sure everything was OK. It's sad. I mean, the people need to work, but they also need to be safe while doing it -- the safety of the people inside, for one, and then the people around the foundry, that they're safe. There are times when the air quality is very poor and you can`t open your windows or the noise gets really loud -- the whining of the machines at night sometimes," the neighbor said.
