North Shore fire responds to industrial fire at Treat All Metals in Glendale

GLENDALE -- Officials responded to an industrial fire at Treat All Metals located on Port Washington Road near Henry Clay Street in Glendale Saturday evening, February 18th.

Crews were on scene from 6:30 p.m. until about 8:30 p.m. Thankfully there were no injuries.

According to the North Shore Fire Department, the fire started in the metal treatment side of the building in a metal treatment oven. There were no employees on that side of the building, but from afar a worker noticed the smoke and called 911.

Due to the work they do, the facility has an extensive safety system. Still, fire officials were cautious on how to extinguish the flames.

"Anytime you are heating metal, we worry about the way water can react to those metals. Ultimately we learned that the machine that they were using specifically, we were able to use water on it after deploying some other distinguishing agents first," said Dan Tyk, North Shore Fire Department.

There was a heavy response on the scene because there is extra caution when first responders are heading to an industrial complex.

Officials are still addressing the damage but the early estimates suggest it's between $50,000-$100,000.
