MFD: 2 people rescued from home during fire near 29th and Mount Vernon

MILWAUKEE -- A daring rescue near Miller Park Thursday, June 22nd. Neighbors save the lives of several people, including children, trapped in a house fire near 29th and Mount Vernon Avenue.

The Milwaukee Fire Department responding to the scene shortly before 5:00 p.m.

Neighbors ran to the home, where they saw the family trapped by flames and smoke on the third floor of the home -- including an infant. Three people told them to jump and caught them as they came down.

"He dropped his infant baby and four other children down to me. I was just hoping that none of them would have fell or slipped out of my hands. I was really concerned, really worried, just happy they're OK," said Kelly Ortiz, helped save people in home.

When firefighters arrived, one person was trapped on the roof and another inside. Crews used a ladder to get both of them out alive.

Two people were taken to the hospital. One with a broken leg.

No firefighters or officials responding to the scene were injured.
