"Incredible atmosphere:" Packers camp underway in sunny Green Bay

GREEN BAY — The first practice of Packers training camp got underway Thursday, July 27th on a sunny day in Green Bay.

The morning practice session began with a training camp tradition. Players rode the bikes of kids from Lambeau Field for about a block down to the practice field. Packers President Mark Murphy called it a beloved Green Bay tradition.

Coach Mike McCarthy joked that the bike ride might be the hardest thing his players have to do all day. He said Thursday would be the best their bodies will feel for the next seven months over the long football season.

Packers QB Aaron Rodgers was pumped up.

"I'm excited. This is a fun part of the year where there are a lot of unknowns -- how the team is going to come together, how we are going to start gelling on offense and defense and special teams. Personalities coming out, chemistry, so it's an exciting time of year," Rodgers said.

The Packers will practice in the morning for about a week, then switch to an evening schedule in advance of the "Family Night" practice at Lambeau on Aug. 5.
