Driver arrested on suspicion of OWI after crash involving West Allis squad near 91st and National

WEST ALLIS -- A driver was arrested on suspicion of OWI after a crash involving a West Allis Police Department squad car Saturday night, August 5th.

It happened around 10:00 p.m.

According to police, it happened while the police squad was on routine patrol. The marked squad was headed east near 91st and National when it collided with a Ford F-150 truck that was southbound on 91st.

As a result of the crash, the truck rolled onto its roof, and onto the sidewalk on the southeast corner of 91st and National.

A pedestrian was hurt, and the driver of the truck fled the scene on foot. That driver was located a few blocks away, by officers. The driver sustained minor injuries, and a passenger was also hurt.

The officer involved in the crash suffered minor injuries.

Police noted that the squad car was not responding to an emergency at the time of the crash, and its lights and sirens were not activated.

The Wisconsin State Patrol is handling this investigation.
