"No words:" Passenger in stolen vehicle killed when it slammed into tree; 2 in custody

MILWAUKEE -- Two suspects are in custody after they allegedly stole a vehicle Saturday evening, August 26th, and police say a passenger in that stolen vehicle died when the car crashed.

"I have no words. It's just so sad that somebody lost their life," a neighbor said.

The victim in this case was just 25 years old.

The vehicle -- a Ford Focus, was taken around 11:30 p.m. near 20th and Mineral. Police said they were able to locate the suspects driving the stolen vehicle in the area of 27th and Locust around 2:15 a.m. Sunday.

Officers attempted to stop the suspects, but the vehicle fled.

Police said the suspects later crashed into a light pole near 33rd and Locust and the female passenger died at the scene. Neighbors woke up Sunday to debris in the roadway near the Milwaukee County Transit System bus stop.

"I'm shocked. I just can't believe what I am seeing now," Karen Ferguesn said.

Ferguesn said she's lived in the area for 18 years, and was one of many neighbors startled by the sound of the impact early Sunday.

"I jumped up because I heard a big boom!" Ferguesn said.

Ferguesn noted over the years, crime in the neighborhood has escalated.

"You can't even sit out on the porch. You can't enjoy the summer no more," Ferguesn said.

The investigation is ongoing. The identity of the deceased hasn't been released.
