Convicted felon shot, killed by police during fight in street

MILWAUKEE -- A 37-year-old man who police describe as a convicted felon was shot and killed in an officer-involved shooting Sunday night, September 3rd near 39th and Congress. It happened during a large fight with armed suspects, police said.

According to police, around 10:00 p.m., officers were sent to the scene regarding reports of a large fight with armed suspects. As officers arrived, there was a suspect armed with a handgun outside a home in the area. Police say he fired a gun prior to officers approaching him.

During an ensuing confrontation, police said the officers fired shots, striking the man. Life-saving measures were performed by officers until officials with the Milwaukee Fire Department arrived. He was pronounced dead at the scene despite those efforts.

Police said the suspect's firearm was recovered at the scene.

The officers involved are a 24-year-old man with two-and-a-half years experience on the force, and a 26-year-old man with five years experience on the force. They are on administrative leave after this shooting per protocol.

The Milwaukee County Investigative team is investigating and is being led by the Wauwatosa Police Department.
