Slenderman stabbing case: Jury in trial of Anissa Weier expected to get case Friday

WAUKESHA -- Testimony in the so-called Slenderman stabbing trial of Anissa Weier wrapped up Thursday, September 14th. The prosecutor is not calling any witnesses in this case, and the jury is expected to get the case by Friday morning.

Three psychologists in all told jurors they diagnosed Weier as having a delusional disorder, moving from fantasy to delusion -- and believing in the fictional character Slenderman so much that she and a friend, Morgan Geyser, stabbed a classmate 19 times and seriously injuring the victim when all three girls were 12.

"She knew the difference between right and wrong, but even so, she could not stop herself at the moment that mattered most because she was convinced that this character who was a fantasy in our minds today was not a fantasy but was real in her mind and that he would kill her and kill her family," said Dr. Gregory Van Rybroek.

The psychologists viewed video of Weier's confession after the crime.

"I was scared because A: I would never see my family again, and B: I had to prove I wasn't crazy, that I wasn't seeing things, because even I saw Slender a few times," said Weier.

Another psychologist told jurors, Weier's delusional disorder forced her to violence.

"She believed in Slenderman, she and Morgan Geyser. They were compelled to act on the delusions and that makes it a disorder," said Michael Caldwell, psychologist.

On Friday, the jury will hear closing arguments and then decide Weier's fate. If the jury agrees that Weier was mentally ill at the time of the crime, she'll go to a treatment facility instead of prison.
