Police: Stolen vehicle crashes near 55th and North; 4 occupants injured

WAUWATOSA/MILWAUKEE -- A crash involving three vehicles, one of them stolen, shut down the intersection near 55th and North on the Wauwatosa/Milwaukee border on Monday afternoon, January 1st.

According to Wauwatosa police, a suspicious vehicle was spotted near 64th and North, and an officer tried stopping it, but it fled.

The officer did not pursue the vehicle.

In Milwaukee, the vehicle struck a second vehicle at 55th and North. After the crash, officials learned the suspect vehicle had been stolen.

"I heard a big impact outside," Lisa Brown said. "I came to the front, and from my window I could see that there was already a Wauwatosa police officer present. That's when I saw that there were three cars that appeared to have impacted at some point."

Four people in the stolen vehicle were taken to the hospital from the scene. The extent of injuries suffered is unclear at this point. Brown said one person had to be extricated.

There did not appear to be any damage to the home on the corner where the crash happened.

"People are always running the red lights here -- at least once a week there is some sort of impact out front," Brown said.

Wauwatosa police said Milwaukee police were called in since this was so close to the border.

The intersection was shut down for nearly 2 hours as investigators searched the scene for clues. It's unclear at this point whether speed was a factor.
