Power out: No school at Rufus King International H.S. on Thursday; classes resume Friday

MILWAUKEE -- There was no school on Thursday, Jan. 11 at Rufus King International High School in Milwaukee -- due to a power outage.

Officials said students who take the bus to school would be bused home.

An MPS spokesman said school will be in session Friday, Jan. 12.

He indicated one of the three primary electrical feeds that provides power to the building unexpectedly failed, which caused a significant outage in the school. MPS crews were called Wednesday night when the power failed, but this was an extensive repair that required We Energies to shut down the system due to the extremely high voltage the feeds carry. Highly-trained individuals from the district and We Energies were needed to safely complete the repair.

Again -- classes will resume Friday.
