Admirals get 4th straight win against Rampage; 4-1

SAN ANTONIO, Tex. -- Goalie Juuse Saros stopped 32 shots to lead the Admirals to a 4-1 win over the San Antonio Rampage Friday at AT&T Center.

The win, Milwaukee’s fourth straight, helped the Admirals improve to 12-1-1-3 over the Rampage since the start of the 2012-13 season. The Admirals have won nine straight against the Rampage. Milwaukee finished the game with three power play markers in four attempts.

Saros won his third game of the season for the Admirals. In his last two wins he has turned aside 59 of 60 shots.

It took a while for either team to get on the board, but it finally happened at 13:14 of the second period. San Antonio had controlled play much of the second period until defenseman Nicolas Meloche went to the penalty box at 12:45 for elbowing. The Ads power play was able to convert. Emil Pettersson’s shot from the middle of the blue line was stopped but Harry Zolnierczyk tipped the loose puck to the right post for Trevor Smith’s shot and goal. It was Smith’s seventh goal of the year, sixth on the power play.

Milwaukee scored another power play goal at 14:43 of the second period. Joonas Lyytinen fed the puck to Trevor Murphy in the right circle. Murphy quickly swept a pass back to the left circle for Frederick Gaudreau who deposited the puck high into the cage. It was Gaudreau’s fourth goal of the season, second on the power play.

Defenseman Lyytinen scored his first AHL goal with a power play tally at 11:30 of the third period. Saros earned the lone assist. Lyytinen skated from the front of the Ads goal all the way to the Rampage right circle before ripping a wrister past goalie Spencer Martin.

The Rampage got on the board with a Tage Thompson power play goal at 17:42 of the third.

Milwaukee’s Anthony Richard scored an empty-net goal at 18:19 of the third period to close the scoring. It was his 10th goal of the season.

The Admirals will play the Rampage again Sun., Jan. 14. Milwaukee returns home to host Grand Rapids Fri., Jan. 19 at Panther Arena.
