Police: 13-year-old boy shot, injured near 40th and Courtland; "This block been trouble"



MILWAUKEE -- A 13-year-old boy is struck by gunfire on Milwaukee's north side early on Friday, Jan. 19. The teen is recovering. But he apparently swung by his homebefore getting medical attention.

The sound of commotion echoed in the neighborhood near 40th and Courtland around 4:40 a.m. Neighbors say they were afraid to look out the window because of past behavior of folks coming in and out of one residence.

"You could hear cars pulling up and screaming, 'Back off!" said Miesha Heard, a concerned neighbor. "This block been trouble since the summer time mostly from that house."

Later in the day, police were going in and out of the home after a 13-year-old boy was shot there -- while detectives gathered evidence trying to determine who pulled the trigger and why.

Those living nearby say the injury is unfortunate. But they are glad police are at the home.

"It's bad when it happens to a little kid," said Sam, a concerned neighbor. "It was bound to happen sooner or later, I knew it."

People who spoke with FOX6 News say the home has been a hotbed for activity.

The circumstances surrounding the incident are still under investigation.

Police continue to seek suspect(s).
