FPC town hall Wednesday, where you can share your thoughts on Milwaukee's next police chief

MILWAUKEE -- You can share the qualifications you'd like to see in the next Milwaukee police chief during a meeting of the Milwaukee Police and Fire Commission Wednesday, Jan. 31.

Steven DeVougas, chairman of the Fire and Police Commission said the meeting will take place at the Wisconsin African-American Historical Society. It's set to take place from 5:30 p.m. until 7 p.m.

The Fire and Police Commission has begun the process of selecting an interim chief of police who will begin leading the agency on Feb. 16.

The town hall style meeting will allow members of the community to share their views on desired qualifications for any chief of police. The feedback will be utilized by the FPC in the selection process.

A five-member panel of experts will participate in the meeting to share their desired qualities and discuss why positive community and police interactions are critical.The panel will be available to respond to the community feedback.

Then on Thursday, Feb. 1, the FPC is expected to reveal the names of the finalists for the interim chief of police position.

Milwaukee Police Chief Ed Flynn announced his retirement on Jan. 8, 10 years and one day after Flynn was sworn in as chief, and after 47 years in law enforcement. Flynn's retirement takes effect on Feb. 16.
