'You know what time it is:' Man accused in fatal shooting of Kole Jopek, killed during drug deal

MILWAUKEE -- Michael Spears, 41, of Milwaukee is now charged in connection with the fatal shooting of  Kole Jopek, 18, shot and killed near 44th and Garfield on Jan. 25, days before his 19th birthday. Spears was arrested Jan. 30 after a standoff.

Spears faces the following criminal charges:


    According to a criminal complaint, Jopek on Jan. 25 was inside a home where a friend had apparently arranged a drug deal. The complaint says at some point during the transaction, the drug supplier, later identified as Spears, produced a pistol and said, "'You know what time it is!' or words to that effect." A witness says the gunman then pushed Jopek against the wall -- and gunfire rang out.

    Jopek was found outside of the home -- and the medical examiner's report indicates he had been shot multiple times. His death was ruled a homicide.

    Spears made his initial appearance in court on Monday, Feb. 5. He is due back in court for a preliminary hearing on Feb. 12.
