GREENFIELD -- A 57-year-old Greenfield man died late Thursday night, Feb. 8 after he ran in front of a semi on I-894 southbound just north of W. Howard Avenue in Greenfield.

Deputies with the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene around 11:00 p.m.

When deputies arrived, two emergency medical technicians from LGH Ambulance Co. out of Kenosha were on scene performing CPR on an unconscious man in a lane of traffic.

A semi-truck driver had stopped near the scene and also called 911 to report that he had struck a man who had run in front of his truck.

The subject’s vehicle was found in the right distress lane, and was not running or have its lights on.

Greenfield Fire Department paramedic units arrived and took over lifesaving efforts. The man suffered massive chest trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The freeway was closed until 4:00 a.m. while crash measurements were taken.

Sheriff’s Office detectives are conducting the death investigation.
