'Hundreds of calls:' HAWS finds volunteer to drive frog home to Florida

WAUKESHA -- Officials with the Humane Animal Welfare Society (HAWS) in Waukesha said they've located a volunteer willing to drive a tree frog home to Florida. HAWS officials said "hundreds of calls and messages" came in after the situation was mentioned on the news and on social media.

A HAWS volunteer will be taking the little guy to Florida next week via car as they head off on a scheduled vacation. They're even providing room and board for him before he heads home.

HAWS officials said on Wednesday, Feb. 21, someone dropped the tiny frog off at HAWS after finding it on a plant they brought back from Marcos Island, Fla. He's about the size of a penny!

They said a call came in from a concerned citizen worried this might be an invasive "Cuban Tree Frog," which they're trying to get rid of in Florida -- but this is not believed to be a Cuban Tree Frog. It's believed to be a juvenile frog native to Florida.
