Darrell Brooks lives near the scene -- and heard the commotion outside.

"I was pretty much worried about me and my son. Because we're so close to the shooting, and bullets can come through your wall, anything. So I was just worried about him," Brooks said.

Relieved that his child is okay, Brooks is now thinking about the children who will never see their fathers again.

"I hope that the family takes care. They're in my prayers," Brooks said.
