Shorewood police look to ID 'prowler' caught on camera, who left empty handed

SHOREWOOD -- Shorewood police are asking for the public's help to identify a prowler captured by surveillance video -- possibly trying to break into a car at a home in the village.

Officials posted the video on Facebook. The incident is brief, yet decidedly unnerving. The home security camera captured the incident at 3:40 a.m. on Saturday, March 24. Motion sensors turned on a light as the hooded figure crossed between two parked cars. A few moments later, the prowler quickly leaves, going back the way he came -- empty handed.

Kathy and Tacitus Bond

Kathy Bond and her husband, Tacitus, said Shorewood is very safe, but will never elude all bad things.

"I learned a long time ago there is no such real thing as absolutely security," Bond said.

That is why the long-time Shorewood residents are commending the homeowners in the video. According to Shorewood police, everything was locked up.

"He looked like he might be doing some smash-and-grab, just whatever he could find or possibly getting into the garage or possibly stealing the cars," Bond said. "I've never been good about locking and now I do."

Brigitte Taylor

Resident Brigitte Taylor told FOX6 News this incident does not frighten her, but she said it should encourage people to always lock up.

"Have double locks on the door, and maybe a camera," Taylor said.

If you recognize the person in the video, you are urged to contact the Shorewood Police Department at 414-847-2610.

In the Facebook post, police said: "Thank you for locking up Shorewood."
