Kenosha man turns himself in after fatal hit-and-run, stepfather says he 'doesn't have a car!'

KENOSHA -- A 29-year-old Kenosha man turned himself in on Monday, July 9 after a hit-and-run crash involving a motorcycle on Sunday evening -- but his family members say there's an important question detectives should be asking that could clear him in this case.

Kenosha police and fire personnel responded to the crash involving a motorcycle and a Chevy Blazer SUV just after 9 p.m. Sunday in the area near 75th Street and Green Bay Road. When officers arrived, they learned the vehicle fled the scene, and it was not located.

According to investigators, the Blazer exited a gas station parking lot, headed eastbound in the westbound lanes of Highway 50 before making a quick left-hand turn into the ALDI parking lot next door, where the motorcycle and SUV collided. A manager inside ALDI Monday afternoon said she wasn't even aware a crash took place there. She said sadly, their surveillance cameras are only in-store, not in the parking lot.

The 19-year-old operator of the motorcycle, now identified as Zachariah Bulanow of Sturtevant, died at the scene.

On Monday morning, around 10:30 a.m., Paul Turner, 29, came to the police department to speak with officers. He was taken into custody. He has not been charged, and his stepfather told FOX6 News he wasn't driving the striking vehicle.

"My heart goes out to the family," said Norris Culver.

Culver is Turner's stepfather.

"'From what I heard, it was the other guy who ran into him. I hate to see this happen to him, but we will get to the bottom of it, though," said Culver.

Culver said he had not spoken to his stepson, and he said he didn't know what Turner may have been doing behind the wheel of any vehicle.

"Paul doesn't have a car. Whose car it was, I don't know. What kind of car it was, I don't know," said Culver.

Police said they're looking to speak with others who may have been involved. Meanwhile, the case is being referred to the Kenosha County District Attorney's Office for possible charges.
