'It's sad:' 3 shot, injured outside bar in Racine; no suspects in custody

RACINE -- Racine police are investigating a triple shooting that happened outside of a bar early Sunday morning, July 22.

Police say three people were shot outside of the Sleepy’s Tropical Paradise bar on Douglas Avenue overnight. As a result, the three victims suffered non-life threatening gunshot wounds.

There are no suspects at this time.

Multiple attempts to reach Racine police for more information have thus far been unsuccessful.

The bar was open Sunday afternoon, and the bartender said "no comment" as he sat with a group of patrons. A neighbor, who said one of the shooting victims is his cousin, said it happened after closing time when a group of people gathered outside. He said it was a seemingly random shooting, and said he's sick of the violence in the area.

"I got a call early this morning saying one of my little cousins got shot and a long-time friend, they were taken on Flight for Life and there was another girl that got shot. So the first thing that popped into my mind was they were just innocent bystanders, probably just standing outside. Probably got caught in somebody else's web -- that something else was going on. It's so sad some of the things you read and see, because like, people don't understand they're kind of planting the seed of violence that goes on in the community and don't even know it. It's sad. It's sad," said Christopher Williams.

An investigation is ongoing.

There was an officer-involved shooting outside this same bar back in March. You'll find more information that incident below.
