Fiserv Forum turned over to the Bucks; 'It's a day that starts a new era'

MILWAUKEE -- Fiserv Forum has officially been turned over to the Milwaukee Bucks. A signing ceremony that took place on Tuesday, July 31 signified that the new world-class arena is open for business.

"It's a day that starts a new era, and is truthfully going to become the home of the next NBA champions," said Mike Sorge, construction executive project director.

On Tuesday, representatives from Mortenson Construction turned over the "keys" to the Fiserv Forum.

"We miraculously, incredibly, as a village of a few thousand people have come together and put together an arena as part of a district that today is substantially complete. Incredible," said Bucks President Peter Feigin.

Feigin took pen to paper -- making it all official.

Over the last two-and-a-half years, Sorge said about 4,000 construction workers logged close to 2 million hours at the arena site.

"Everybody on the project has worked tirelessly to achieve this milestone, and it's a big milestone," Sorge said.

Also big -- the key representing the change of hands.

"We'll mount that and put that in the employee's entrance of the arena forever," Feigin said.

While workers are hanging up the hard hats inside, outside progress on the 'entertainment block' continues.

"We're going to redefine what content and what entertainment means," Feigin said.

Soon to be the site of Good City Brewing and Punch Bowl Social, Feigin said the space will capture more than meets the eye.

"So I think this is a testament to kind of a great transformation of what's happening all around the city," Feigin said.

Fiserv Forum will serve as home to the Milwaukee Bucks and the Marquette University Golden Eagles men’s basketball team, and as a showcase for world-class entertainment and other events. It opens to the public on August 26.
