'Just senseless:' Woman stabbed in back of head outside gas station; woman arrested

MILWAUKEE -- A 59-year-old woman was stabbed outside a BP gas station near 27th and Lisbon early Thursday morning, Aug. 9. Police said a 31-year-old woman was arrested.

"It's just senseless," said a barber who works across the street from the gas station.

Police said the victim was stabbed in the back of the head around 6:20 a.m.

"I got in for work this morning... I know the 31-year-old lady. The 59-year-old lady, I've never seen her around here before. When I got in this morning I just heard there was a stabbing at the gas station," said the barber.

Police said Thursday the victim is alive, but suffered a serious injury.

"It's been a lot -- a lot of stuff going on in this area lately. Sad that that happened," said the barber.

The barber said employees there are looking out for one another. He said he hopes the victim pulls through.

"I hope the lady... the victim is OK and let's hope everything will be alright," the barber said.

Other people FOX6 News spoke with in the neighborhood said the suspect suffers from mental illness. Police haven't said whether the victim and the suspect knew each other or if it was a random attack.

At last check, the victim was recovering at the hospital.

The investigation is ongoing.
