'Put the money in the bag:' Armed robbery suspect wanted after hitting 5 south side businesses

MILWAUKEE -- Police are seeking a suspect accused in connection with five armed robberies that happened on Milwaukee's south side on Tuesday, Sept. 4 starting around 1 a.m. and ending around 9:45 p.m. In some cases, employees said the suspect threatened them with a gun or knife.

Police said the businesses that were hit are are located in the following areas:


    The suspect (pictured below) is described as a male, white, between the ages of 35 and 40, standing 5’7” tall and weighing roughly 150 pounds. He has reddish or brownish hair, a beard, a slim build and was last seen wearing a dark-colored, hooded sweatshirt, black gloves, dark pants and light-colored shoes. The suspect implied that he was armed with a weapon inside his hooded sweatshirt.

    Surveillance cameras captured the suspect in a scuffle with a clerk at yet another gas station on Milwaukee's south side. It was an attempted armed robbery. The clerk fought off the suspect with a garbage can; the suspect armed with a knife. The surveillance video has been handed over to police.

    Ivan Martinez, a shift leader at the Taco Bell near S. 1st Place and Holt said Wednesday he was still processing what happened just before closing time on Tuesday.

    "He's just like 'put the money in the bag,'" said Martinez.

    Martinez said the suspect pretended to ask for a non-existent employee before demanding the cash.

    "He sits there for a second and starts mumbling," said Martinez.

    He walked away empty-handed before targeting another restaurant.

    "When he walked past the drive-thru window, another manager said to get down because he was flashing a gun," said Martinez.

    At the first business, the Shell gas station near 13th and College, he got away with $230. Employees there said he threatened them with a knife.

    Thankfully, no one was hurt in any of these incidents.
