Officials: Disagreement between 9-year-olds leads to cutting incident

BRISTOL -- The Kenosha County Sheriff's Department is investigating a cutting incident that happened at Bristol Elementary School on Friday morning, Sept. 21.

"I wouldn't think it would happen here," said Ashley Huebner, picking up friend's child.

The sheriff's office says around 7:30 a.m., two students were told to quiet down by a teacher. When one of the students reiterated the point to their peer, deputies say the other grabbed a razor blade and started slashing.

"When I got the message, I felt a lot of sympathy for the kids," said Huebner.

Some parents say they were in tears when they heard the news, feeling awful for both of the children and families involved.

"That's a really difficult situation," said Huebner.

Deputies say the victim received seven stitches in the arm and will be OK. They add neither child has been in trouble before and did not have an ongoing feud with one another.

Deputies don't believe the child who brought the razor did so with a plan ahead of time to hurt anyone.

For those close to the kids in the school, they say it does not change their opinion.

"It's a good school," said Huebner.

Deputies say the slashing was likely not witnessed by many, if any other students.

The school says teachers immediately intervened.

The case will be reviewed by juvenile prosecutors.

Officials do not believe the two students have a history of being friends or enemies -- and the student who allegedly did the cutting had no prior incidents at the school.

The Bristol School District released the following statement to parents and guardians:
