MADISON — A longtime higher education leader has been named interim chancellor at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

UW System President Ray Cross announced Friday that Cheryl Green has agreed to take over the post on Jan. 1. She replaces Beverly Kopper, who resigned from after a year in which her husband was banned from campus amid sexual harassment complaints from several women.

Green previously served as assistant vice president for student affairs at Tennessee State University. She brings more than 25 years of experience working in higher education and student affairs, as well as 14 years spent in administration.

Cross says Green will bring considerable leadership and experience while a nationwide search is launched for a new chancellor.

UW-Whitewater has about 13,000 students at its Whitewater and Rock County campuses.
