Brewcity Bruisers are just days away from their 2019 home opener



MILWAUKEE -- Established more than a decade ago -- the Brewcity Bruisers are just days away from their 2019 home opener. Kasey spent the morning behind the scenes, as the all-female roller derby league practiced for Sunday's game.

January 27 @ 3:00 pm - 7:30 pm

The first bout of our 13th Season will begin with a match up between the Shevil Knevils and Maiden Milwaukee, followed by a match up between the Crazy Eights and Rushin’ Rollettes.

Doors open at 3 PM and the first whistle is at 4 PM!

For this bout, we will be partnering with Canine Cupids! Canine Cupids has helped over 500 dogs who found themselves homeless and in need. Their mission is to save dogs of all sizes and breeds by placing them into loving, forever homes. They operate through their foster homes and their mission is funded 100% from donations and volunteer support. Their goal is to have a lasting impact on the lives of the many local dogs who are still in need. If you want to support them, you can donate during our bout or buy 50/50 raffle tickets.

Additionally, for the first time ever, your dog can join you at the game!

Dog tickets cost $4 at the door, while corresponding human tickets are $20.* All dogs attending the game require a paid ticket. A section will be reserved for fans who bring their dogs, and a convenient access point will be designated for animals to relieve themselves throughout the event. Only human food will be available for purchase.

The bout will feature a wiener dog race at halftime by the Milwaukee Area Dachshund Lovers club. Fans will have a chance to meet the racing dogs prior to the race.

Brewcity Bruisers boot camp (website)

January 26 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Are you ready for your next challenge!? The Brewcity Bruisers have a full training program for folks who are interested in getting involved in roller derby, and it all starts with our bootcamp!

What to expect:
Our Boot Camps are for all people ages 18 and over and is considered an introduction to the fundamentals of derby style roller skating. This class is your opportunity to take a peek at the sport to see if it’s for you. This is a one-day, 3-hour class where you will learn about basic skating form, strides, crossovers, balance, control and how to safely fall and recover. All skill levels are welcome as there is no contact at our Boot Camps, however be prepared for a physical challenge!

What to bring:
Boot camp costs $20. Please bring your cash payment to be paid upon arrival at boot camp. Equipment for bootcamps include: quad roller skates (non-inline), a helmet, knee pads, elbow pads, wrist guards, and a mouth guard. Wear comfortable clothing and don’t forget your water bottle! Let us know if you need help acquiring any of these items, we have gear to lend!!
