Snow Day! MPS among the districts closed Monday

MILWAUKEE -- Almost every school in the FOX6 viewing area was set to be closed on Monday, Jan. 28 due to the winter storm, expected to dump 7-14 inches of new snow by Monday night. Milwaukee Public Schools is one of the districts that canceled classes for Monday.

MPS officials Sunday afternoon announced all schools and district offices would be closed Monday, as well as all district after school, recreation and athletic programs and events.

A winter storm warning took effect at 9 p.m. Sunday for all of southeast Wisconsin -- through 6 p.m. Monday. The FOX6 Weather Experts said we could see 7-14 inches of snow.

In Menomonee Falls, Monday's Snow Day wasn't official until the superintendent made it Facebook official, taking a ride on a sled down "Killer Hill" at Rotary Park.

"These are my ski mittens. I needed these today. We will be closing school tomorrow," said Superintendent Corey Golla. "Obviously, with that cold front coming in, the wind chills look to be pretty severe."

"So my whole day is free!" said Hannah Lucht, Menomonee Falls High School senior. "You have to take the kids safety into account, above all else."
