2,350 citations issued Monday night: Park on the odd side of the street Tuesday in Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE -- A spokesman with the City of Milwaukee's Department of Public Works said Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 29 2,350 citations were issued Monday night to drivers who failed to move to the even numbered side of the street by 11 p.m., amid an overnight snow removal operation. A winter storm dumped several inches of snow in southeast Wisconsin starting Sunday night.

The spokesman said 180 pieces of equipment were being utilized as of Tuesday afternoon, with drivers focusing on residential streets.

He said plowing would continue Tuesday night, again focusing on residential streets, touching up snow islands, intersections and corners ahead of the extreme cold.

The National Weather Service issued a wind chill advisory in effect until 6 p.m. Tuesday. A wind chill warning was then set to take effect at 6 p.m. -- running until noon on Thursday. Wind chills could drop to the -50s at times.

With another snow removal operation called for Tuesday night, Milwaukee residents are reminded to park on the odd numbered side of the street from 11 p.m. until 6 a.m.

While this is citywide, please understand this is not the policy for all streets. Posted signs take precedence. There is no parking on thoroughfares and streets with bus routes during the overnight hours from 11 p.m to 6 a.m. CLICK HERE for more information.

Garbage and recycling collections will resume tentatively Thursday, Jan 31.

Meanwhile, DPW officials said several DPW customer facilities would be closed beginning Wednesday, including "Drop Off Centers," closed Wednesday and Thursday and the Tow Lot on W. Lincoln Avenue, which would be closed to the public on Wednesday. The Tow Lot was scheduled to reopen Thursday at noon.

They noted emergency services DPW provides would still be available.
