"Running upstairs like, 'Oh my God, something happened. Somebody got killed!'" said Mitchell.

"I heard about five shots. When I looked up, the place was loaded with officers. They got here so fast," said Bobby West, neighbor.

Police found the 17-year-old victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Her death was ruled a homicide.

"Look out the window, and see blood on the ground," said Mitchell. "That is not good."

Miles away on Milwaukee's south side, police followed up on a similar incident near 12th and National.

"Approximately 10 minutes after that call, we also received another call of a second victim who was a 30-year-old victim -- also a victim of a gunshot," said Inspector Timothy Heier, MPD. "She received a non-fatal gunshot wound. She will be taken into custody."

Police said it was believed the scenes at 16th and Atkinson and 12th and National were related.

"People are losing their lives too soon, and for no good reason at all," said Mitchell. "It's terrible. I'm praying for them and their families."
