RACINE COUNTY -- I-41/I-94 NB will have the center and right lanes closed because of emergency road repairs. The repairs will take place north from the Root River Bridge for approximately half a mile. Grinding and repaving operations are expected to run past the evening rush hours on Friday, Feb. 22.

"That's good that they were fixing those," said Steven Poquette, truck driver.

Chicago-based truck driver, Steven Poquette, is familiar with the deteriorating road conditions.

"I drive through here every day," said Poquiette. "So always on the northbound side, they always have the big bumps or moguls."

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) says crews are grinding and repaving the road between County Highway G in Racine County and Ryan Road in Milwaukee County -- which were damaged by excessive frost heaves.

"Severe cold followed by heavy rain, followed by more freeze thaw. Even today we get above freezing again so it does play havoc. Remember, this is the last month of life of that northbound pavement. Then we actually built some temporary road as well. We're working with that. We're partnering up with law enforcement, trying to keep it safe," said Ryan Luck, WisDOT.

Despite following the posted detours, Poquette says he was stuck in traffic for an extra two-and-a-half hours.

"Being a truck driver you get used to those sorts of things," said Poquette.

The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office is encouraging all motorists to pay careful attention to road conditions and signage indicating the detour.

Alternate Route: Exit at Highway G to West Frontage Rd to 27th St. north to Ryan Rd. Ryan Rd east to I-41/94 NB on-ramp.

Traffic coming from the south should exit at Highway 158 and follow the signed detour route.
