Hyde Syte Tactics holds fundraiser for MPD Officer Rittner's loved ones

HARTLAND -- Hundreds flocked to Hyde Syte Tactics in Hartland on Saturday, Feb. 23 to help raise money for fallen Milwaukee Police Officer Matthew Rittner's loved ones. It was an overwhelming show of support for the family of a man who dedicated his life to serving others.

"It's pretty overwhelming," said Trevor DeBoer, worked with Rittner.

Officer Rittner was killed in the line of duty on Feb. 6. Fellow MPD Officer DeBoer helped organize the fundraiser for the loved ones Rittner left behind.

"This is a day for celebration not mourning," said DeBoer.

Nearly every room of Hyde Syte Tactics was filled with food, fun and silent auction items.

"It's great to see all the support his family has. It's going to be a long road for them," said Dan Schram, friend.

The day brought together both strangers and those who knew the fallen officer well.

Max Zaruba, who served with Rittner in Iraq, says he was the man that everyone wanted to be.

"If you knew Matt then you'd know if there was ever a falling of his life, this would be the outcome," said Zaruba.

Each person came with the mission to make a difference.

"The least I can do is cancel everything voluntary in my life to make sure I'm there to support the passing of his," Zaruba said.

A day dedicated to a family forever changed.

"As a community and as a country, it is now our job to make sure they're cared for," said DeBoer.

Officer DeBoer and his wife helped spearhead the fundraiser. Money raised will go to Officer Rittner's widow and young son.
