Captain Dennis Linn resigns from Twin Lakes Police Dept. after drug charges, chief reacts

KENOSHA COUNTY -- Captain Dennis Linn has voluntarily resigned from the Twin Lakes Police Department effective Tuesday, March 5. Charges were filed against Dennis Linn and his wife, Cheryl Linn, after an investigation was launched into prescription medication removed from the department.

Dennis Linn made his initial court appearance on Thursday, March 7.

"I will not make any excuses for this situation. These allegations are upsetting and disturbing," said Twin Lakes Police Chief Adam Grosz.

For the first time, the chief of police is speaking out on the charges filed against his former captain.

"This situation has been difficult for members of the Twin Lakes Police Department," said Chief Grosz. "Mr. Linn has been a full-time member of this department since 2002."

Chief Grosz applauds the officers that reported Captain Linn's actions in the evidence processing room on Feb. 11. Captain Linn was spotted removing a bottle of prescription medication from the drug take-back program.

"These members did the right thing in a very difficult situation," said Grosz.

Investigators found three empty prescription bottles in the garbage cans of the couple's home. One of oxycodone and two for hydrocodone. The names on the bottles did not match anyone in the household.

Meanwhile, Cheryl Linn is being prosecuted in Walworth County. Police arrested her after a February traffic stop in Lake Geneva. She handed deputies a metal pill bottle with eight pills of hydrocodone. Among the items deputies found was also a plastic bag with marijuana.

"I really believe strongly that we did the right thing here," Grosz said.

Now, because Dennis Linn is no longer a member of the police department, he is not required to make a statement.

Dennis Linn is due back in court on March 28 for a preliminary hearing.
