Police: 15-year-old boy injured in Kenosha after 'negligent discharge of a weapon'

KENOSHA -- A 15-year-old boy was transported to the hospital Thursday morning, March 7 for a gunshot wound. The incident was being investigated as "negligent discharge of a weapon" and one person was in custody.

In an update Thursday afternoon, police said the boy was treated at the hospital for a single gunshot wound to the abdomen. He was in stable condition. Police said officers recovered a firearm from the apartment unit.

Police were dispatched to the apartment in the area of 38th Avenue and 50th Street around 6:10 a.m. for reports of a shooting.

An 18-year-old man was taken into custody on a probation hold.

Police said the man and boy were acquaintances, and detectives believed there was no threat to the community.

Police said a recommendation on possible charges could come as soon as Monday, March 11.
