Man arrested for OWI, 5 rescued after vehicle went into water in Saukville

SAUKVILLE, Wis. -- A 36-year-old man was arrested for OWI after a water rescue incident in Saukville Saturday night, March 16.

Police said around 9:42 p.m., officers responded to the area near County Highway W, just north of State Highway 33 for the report of a vehicle in the water.

An investigation revealed a driver disregarded multiple "road closed" signs and was almost completely submerged.

With help from the Saukville Fire Department, Grafton Fire Department, Port Washington Fire Department, Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office and Washington County Sheriff's Department, all five of the vehicle's occupants were rescued.

Four of the occupants were transported to a hospital and treated for hypothermia.

The driver, a 36-year-old man from Dalton, Wis., was arrested for OWI, causing injury, violation of probation and an active arrant.

Fire officials told FOX6 News the fifth person was located on an island miles away -- with a very low body temperature. A thermal drone from Washington County was used to locate that person.

Four counts of recklessly endangering safety were also referred to the district attorney.
