'Youth being reckless:' Stolen vehicle slams into Uber, killing passenger inside



MILWAUKEE -- A woman is dead following a crash involving a stolen vehicle early Friday morning, March 22. It happened near 21st and Orchard around 1:30 a.m. The victim's roommates are in sorrow and disbelief.

The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office identified the victim as 22-year-old Cristina Marlyn Hernandez of Milwaukee.

"There was no screeching, nothing. It was just a bang," said a man who lives nearby.

Home surveillance captured the moments after the crash.

"It shook my windows. That's what got us up right away," said a man who lives nearby.

A woman is seen being tossed from a vehicle, then sitting up moments later speaking with police. She survived.

"I came downstairs and seen the cars had collided," said Jose Zamano, neighbor.

Investigators say a stolen vehicle slammed into an Uber with two passengers inside. The driver and one passenger were injured. The other passenger, Cristina Marlyn Hernandez, died. She was known to loved ones as Marlyn.

"I know she was planning on going to a friend's house," said Reyna Vences, victim's roommate.

A small memorial sits in the spot of the violent crash. Loved ones remember the victim's life.

"Marlyn was very lovable, very energetic. She was quick to say whatever she wanted to," said Jasen Lesieur, victim's roommate.

Police arrested two kids in the stolen car.

"We seen the cops already on the scene, guns drawn," said the man who lives nearby.

"One of the juveniles was pulled out of the white truck that was slammed into the curb right there. They were pulled out of the van and arrested," said Zamano.



Their actions caused trauma and tragedy.

"The youth being reckless," Lesieur said.

"I feel bad for the families that have to endure that pain," said the man who lives nearby.

A violent crash with a tragic ending: a young life taken too soon.

"She was a really good person. She was taken too soon," said Lesieur.

Police tell FOX6 News the two juveniles taken into custody suffered minor injuries in the crash.

The investigation is ongoing.
