Fatal shooting near 67th and Villard in Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee police are investigating a fatal shooting that happened Friday morning, April 12 near 67th Street and Villard. Police say the victim was shot several times. Several neighbors say they heard gunfire loud and clear but 911 wasn't called until five hours later.

Those living near where the shooting took place say the shooting happened around 2:30 a.m.

Kenisha Brown was awake but didn't call 911. She says the shootings have become so common in her neighborhood, they're now background noise.

"It's ridiculous and it has to stop," Brown said.

Brown later learned a man had been killed down the street from her home.

"It was terrible," Brown said. "I feel sorry for them and their family. It's unfortunate. All this gun violence."

A tragedy Brown has experienced firsthand. She buried her daughter, Kiara Brown, one year ago this month. The 18-year-old was shot and left for dead in a car near 98th and Carmen.

"It hurts, it's something that you never forget about. You never forget about it. The pain feels like it happened that same day," said Brown.

Sheronda Grant

Milwaukee police say this most recent homicide is the 19th so far in 2019. With few leads to go on, authorities are urging anyone who knows anything to come forward.

"We see that we can work together with our community in order to brings these suspects and offenders to justice," said Sergeant Sheronda Grant, Milwaukee Police Department.

A partnership between law enforcement and the public so that the next shooting isn't also considered background noise. "Young people need to think. They need to think more and put these guns down," Brown said.
