'My baby didn't deserve this:' Mother begs someone to come forward after 11-year-old shot

MILWAUKEE -- An 11-year-old girl was recovering Wednesday, April 17 after being struck by a stray bullet near 44th and Locust Tuesday night. The bullet, lodged in Shamariona McCloud's back, may be there for the rest of her life.

"It's just a shame innocent kids can't even sit in their house and play," said Cierra McCloud, Shamariona's mother.

Milwaukee police said the shooting happened just after 11 p.m. Tuesday night. The preliminary investigation revealed a shooter intentionally fired multiple shots into the home.

Cierra McCloud said it just didn't make sense to her, her mother and her stepfather, who just moved to the neighborhood.

"My nephew could've gotten hit. My brother. My mom," said Cierra McCloud.

Shamariona is recovering at a local hospital.

"It's another horrific, senseless, insane shooting," Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett said.

Mayor Barrett spoke out on the shooting at a city event Wednesday.

"This little girl was doing nothing wrong," Mayor Barrett said. "She's a little girl. Let her go to sleep. Let her go to school."

Mayor Barrett said shootings were down since this time in 2018, but Tuesday night's near-fatal gunfire was still one too many.

"Somebody come forward, because my baby didn't deserve this," Cierra McCloud said.

Milwaukee police were searching for the person or persons responsible for the shooting. Anyone with information was  urged to call Milwaukee police.

Meantime, a GoFundMe account was set up for Shamariona. A rally was scheduled for Saturday, April 20 beginning at noon near 44th and Locust.
