'Medical emergency:' 49-year-old inmate dies in med unit at Milwaukee County Jail



MILWAUKEE -- A 49-year-old Milwaukee man who was serving time at the Milwaukee County Jail died on Monday, April 22.

According to the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office, around 3:45 a.m. Monday, the inmate, who was recently booked into the jail, experienced a medical emergency. MCSO officials said prior to being booked into the jail, the inmate had been medically cleared, subsequent to his arrest, at a hospital.

Medical aid was rendered to the inmate and the Milwaukee Fire Department was contacted and responded. While in a Milwaukee Fire Department medical unit, the inmate died.

His identity was not released as of Monday evening -- pending next-of-kin notification.

The Milwaukee County medical examiner conducted an autopsy. The results were pending.

The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office requested that the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department respond to conduct an investigation, which was ongoing.
