Failed to yield: 81-year-old man seriously hurt after vehicle struck by train in Plymouth

SHEBOYGAN COUNTY -- An 81-year-old man suffered serious injuries when his vehicle was struck by a train in Plymouth on Tuesday evening, April 23. He was taken to the hospital by Flight for Life after Plymouth police said an initial investigation revealed he failed to yield to the train.

It happened just before 5 p.m. on Pleasant View Road near Valley Road.

When first responders arrived, the man was trapped in his vehicle, which had been pushed approximately 100 yards west of the intersection down the tracks. The Jaws of Life were used to extricate him.

An initial investigation revealed his vehicle was headed south on Pleasant View when it was struck by the westbound train.

Witnesses said the train's whistle blew several times before it crossed the roadway. Police said witnesses said there was no indication of any attempt to stop or slow down for the train.
