Police: CCW permit holder suffered self-inflicted gunshot wound during altercation near 47th and Auer

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee police, in an update Monday night, May 6 said a self-inflicted gunshot wound caused the death of a 46-year-old man in a shooting incident near 47th and Auer on Sunday evening, May 5.

Police said the deceased was a valid CCW permit holder, who was in the area, armed with a semi-automatic firearm that was holstered. The man engaged in an argument with several acquaintances that came to the area, and during the altercation, police said the deceased made verbal threats to shoot people.

An eyewitness said the deceased attempted to remove his firearm from his holster, and multiple people in the area, fearing for their safety, attempted to disarm him.

While attempting to control his firearm, police said the man unintentionally discharged it, causing a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his lower stomach and right inner thigh -- which later caused his death.
