MILWAUKEE -- A 55-year-old woman was struck and killed by a vehicle near Layton Boulevard and Evergreen Lane, near the Mitchell Park Domes. It happened Friday, May 24, just before 7 p.m.

According to police, the suspect struck the woman and fled from the scene. The Milwaukee Fire Department attempted life saving measures; however, the victim succumbed to her injuries. The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office was called to the scene.

The driver of the vehicle, a 50-year-old woman, was found and taken into custody. Milwaukee police are continuing with the investigation, and will be presenting charges to the DA's office in the upcoming days.

A number of family members were at the scene asking for answers.

"This is nothing that you can say when things like this happen to anyone. It's just best to be quiet and pray and be present," said a Salvation Army chaplain at the scene.
